PATRICK DOWD DIESFROM RULLET WOUNDShot Late Last Night in CEevere, Assailant EscapedMuch Mystery in Case, WhichPolice Are Trying to ClearREVERE, Dec 17— Patrick Dowd, aged 26, unmarried, son of Mrs Annie Dowdof 40 Eastern av, died at the Massachusetts General Hospital this morning from a bullet wound in the abdomen. He was shot at 11 o’clock last evening at the coiner of 8choo! si and Eastern a\H| by a man who escaped.There is considerable mystery surrounding the shooting which the policeare endeavoring * to clear up. The motive that prompted the deed is not manifest at present. The police this morning arrested a man who they believed to have been Dowd's assailant, but they learned later they were mistaken andhave exonerated him of having any connection with the shooting. They found a dirk knife in his possession and he was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon in the Chelsea Court today and held in $300 for a hearing Dec 21. Pe gave his name as Gregoria Casa-betta, aged 24. of 86V* Broadway. He is a shoeworker. AThe police are Reaching for Paoli Capano, aged 26. of True si, Revere, who, they assert, did the shooting. They Bay that* Dowd was walking with Jo-tlt; ph Flood of Florence st, Everett, and Ebber Bath of Sprague st when two shots were tired at them by Capano. Flood and Bath reported the shooting to the police.Dowd is safd to have remarked, “He won’t get away with that,” and tried to catch him. It is said that a third shot was fired and this Is believed to have been the bullet that killed Dowd.Dowd lived with his m »ther and has three brothers and a sister His father is dead. He is said by the police lo have been somewhat feeble minded,though his condition wa not serious. Capano is said to have returned recently from the Maine woods anti Capt William E. Tappan has been assigned to the case by Chief John J. DyerCapano is described as b feet 7 inches in hight and wore a cap and dark overcoat and yellow gloves. He Is known to have some money in a Boston bank and the police were searching for him in that city today.!
