Prize Speaking Contest.The speaking contesfTat the A. M. E. church, proceeds In inter eet of Clay Ktreet School industrial building, was uot a financial success. Two of the rcbools, Jackson street and Broad street, didnot appear, which made ,a little hitch in the programme.^ The Allen Normal was cut enmrsse. Good Shepherd Episcopal school and Clay Street school were fairly represented. When will the adult population of negroes in Thomas-ville learn to appreciate such enterprises. The only things our people in lboraaBville seem to appreciate are public weddings, funerals cake walks, circuses and hum “Georgia Oampmeetings.'' The real substantial enterprises they seem to utterly ignore.Outside of the Allen Normal with teachers, a few pupils from Clay street and Good Shepherd sobools aud possibly a dozen oth ere, consisting of ministers aud teachers, there were none to ou-courage the brilliant efforts of the speakers.
