Sheriffs, County Attorneys Meet For ConventionBank Robberies, Prohibi-bition Problems, Occupy Attention.Des Moines, Dec. 16.—/P— County attorneys and sheriffs of Iowa met today at the state house for their annual conventions.A joint meeting in the senate chamber was on schedule for this morning, with Gov. John Hammill and Atty. Gen. John Fletcher giving addresses of welcome. Charles B. Hoeven of Alta, president of the Iowa County Attorneys association, and R. F. Gregson of Montezuma, president of the Sheriff’s association, replied for their respective organizations.The afternoon sessions were separate, with the sheriffs hearing the first of the speakers at their annual schools. A. M. McColl of the state board of control was to address the group on Iowa penal institutions, and James R. Wilkinson of the Windsor, Canada, police department, was to speak on fingerprinting.The rest of the sheriffs’ afternoon sessions was devoted to a round table discussion on sheriffs' problems with emphasis on hank robberies. Chiefs of county vigilante groups have been Invited to attend. New sheriffs were instructed on the duties of their office.The county attorneys devoted their separate session to discus-sons of prohibition enforcement. On their speaking program were Alice J. Boyer, general secretary of the Iowa Anti-Saloon league, and Ida B. Wise Smith, president of the Iowa W. C. T. IT.Tomorrow the two groups will meet in another joint session to hear a group of noted speakers on crime detection, state police, and scientific phases of criminal work.
