Senator’s Son Arrested Driving Stolen CarRodney Barboa, 19, son of State Sen. Eddie Barboa of Albuqueque, was placed in Sierra County jail Monday when it was determined the car he was driving, had been stolen.State Police Officer Sue DeWalt stopped Barboa for speeding at mile post 71 on 1-25 as he was driving south Officer DeWalt said a check showed the car had been stolen from Harker Heights, near Ft. Hood, Tex.A car following the car driven by Barboa was also stopped and its driver, Buddy Franich, 19, of Grants, was held in connection with the stolen car driven by Barboa.Officer DeWalt said Barboa's wife, Leigh Ann, was a passenger in his car and Franich’s father was a passenger in the Franich car.Barboa and the younger Franich were held in the Sierra County jail until they were arraigned before Magistrate Totsie Williams.‘ Old West ’ Cases Are Handled By DeputiesSierra County sheriff’s deputies know how their counterparts in the early territorial days feel when it comes to tracking fugitives.TTiis week Dale Lee, 61, who had been held here on Arizona criminal charges, was released from jail when the proper papers didn’t come through and he camped out in the Caballo area, complete with his horse.Later, Special Investigator Charles Cox said, Lee saddled up, rode into Caballo and assaulted an acquaintance. When the manfiled charges and deputies went to look for Lee they found his campsite abandoned and horse tracks heading west.The officers are also combing the western desert areas for Gary Payne, an ex-sheriff 's office employe who is charged with burglaryof the sheriff’s evidence room. Officer Coxsaid deputies started out after both Lee and Payne at the same time and they both escaped across the mountains.The two cases are not related, said Cox.
