Boarder at Home of Slain Man in Mon-* Itague Jail for Fatal Stabbing.A charge of murder was lodged ■gainst W. S. McGabee, 40, of this j ty *t 9 o’clock Sunday morning the death of Charlie Hunter, 45, cGahee has resided in the Hunter ome for the past month, j McGahee was placed in the county jail at Montague Friday night for investigation in the case.Couple Separated.McGahee is separated from his wife and two children, officers said. He is a day laborer and came to Bowie two years ago from Oklahoma. McGahee served with the 90th division in the world war. He , moved to the Hunter home about 30 days ago. Officers refused to comment on trouble between Hun-^*md his wife in the last few eeks. Mrs. Hunter was held in the ontague jail Sunday for additional questioning.Hunter’s body was found under the Rock Island railroad trestle, e and a half miles from town, fter authorities had received at the toffice the end of a cardboard oe box on which was written:' “I am a passerby. There is a ead man two or three miles northt town near the railroad.”The note was left Thursday atthe Bowie postoffice. Officers searched the ground described in the note, but were unable to locate the body.Hunter’s body, with a knife wound over the heart and another-in the neck and with a deep wound on his head w'here he had been struck apparently with a blunt instrument, was found by Lann Gam-bell, section hand for the Rock Island who had been sent to the trestle to make a repair. Hunter hadbeen dead about three days.Officers believed that the “passer-by” had been confused in his directions and also in the distance of the body from town.Death Set Friday.Officers set the time of Hunter’s death as Friday night, Dec. 1. He was last seen on that night about 9 o’clock. Mrs. Hunter told officers she had been worried over her husband’s absence of a week. She did not notify officers, however.The Montague county grand jury will hold a regular session early in January.Hunter’s body was found by Lann Gambell, Rock Island section hand. Funeral services for the victim were held Sunday afternoon.Hunter was an ex-service man. The family came to Bowie fromWichita Falls about three years ago.Surviving are the widow, a small son and a young daughter.
