They had beenslain, iii a spectacular gun tattle wiUi ,ioe Pullen, a negro tenant farmer, ai d a posse of a hundred men , Hour, inlt; luding the1 negto, lost theirlives it. the battle in which the negro was riddled with bu'.lets.Xine cthers were wounded and three perhaps fatal’y. The dead, in addition to Pullen, are W. V. Sanders, 45; R. L. Methivin, 55, and E. O. HessAll ol the wounded were members of the i s.se which battled the negro for sever hours. Three of the injured are (seriously wounded,Pullen was captured this momin-T when the pos semen braved the negro’s lire from a drain'uge ditch in which he had been entrenched sevenhours.Headed by Sheriff Carlledge, the possemt n charged upon the negrowith a machine gun which had been brought from Clarksdale, and oPenei fire up o 'the negro in the ditch. They finally captured Pullen after lie had been shot twenty times and he was brought here where he died at 2 o’clock this morning.The trouble started vesterdsvv hen S nders, on whose farm Pullen lived, w'.nt to his libuso and there an argument ensued over a debt whichSanders was trying to collect from Hi*' negro. Pullen during the afternoon, one by one. dropped member s of the small posse which first started after him after he killed Sanders who nhe took hog shotrun and fled to the swamps.
