HAD EXCITING ENCOUNTERGitu Marshal and Martin Patterson Mix in Lively Fashion.--Latter Now Faces Uglu Charge.A lively tilt between Martin and Henry Patterson, brothers, and City Marshal Joseph Cannon took place late Monday afternoon, as a result of which one of the brothers was heavily fined and the other faces a charge of aBsault and battery withintent to commit murder.The trouble started at the Patterson Risacher livery barn where the marshal attempted to arrest Martin, the younger of the Patterson boy6, for alleged intoxication. Patterson resisted arrest and was about to get the better of the marshal when the latter summoned assistance and Patterson was overpowered.While the marshal and his assistants, with young Patterson, were on their way to the town lockup, they were accosted by Henry Patterson, who, it is said, struck and kicked Marshal Canon. By this time night Marshal Farrell had arrived at the scene of the trouble and, with the assistance of other persons, succeeded in stopping the mixup between Henry aud Marshal Cannon and took Martin on to the town lockup.On Tuesday morning Martin Patterson was taken before Mayor Mc-Govren, where he was arraigned on a charge of assault and battery with intent to committ murder. He plead not guilty, and was placed under 81,000 bond for his appearance in the Mayor’s court on the 2nd day of January. He secured bond and was released.Tuesday afternoon, Henry Patterson was arraigned before Mayor Mc-Govren on a charge of assault and battery, and, on bis plea of guilty, was fined $40 and costs, amounting in all to $50.70,
