‘Sin Child’s” Isolation Retarded Mental Growth, Sociologist DiscoversBy International News Service.STATE COLLEGE, Pa*, Dec. 14-— The mental development of Alice Harris, tivc-ycur-old “sin baby found miserably isolated from human contact in her home near Perryopolis, Fayette county, last Februury, hasbeen seriously retarded by her experience, a prominent sociologist reported today.After almost a year of study, Dr. Kingsley Davis, associate professor oI sociology at Pennsylvania State CallogR, has concluded that social isolation so retards mental development that a child (in this ease, Alice Harris) isolated for a period of years is hardly able to learn to speak, think or act like a normal person.Dr. Davis based his conclusions on the predicament ol the XIorrb child, who was found by humane officials tied to an old chair In a storage room on the second floor of the Davis Harris farm- Investigator* said they ^ found the child, wedged Into a chair with her arms, pitifully thin, tied above her head,E.
