Restaurant Man Dies From Wounds; Desperately Tries to Save Life.♦^ SAX FRANCISCO, Dec. U. — San I* rancfsco’jj bootleg chiefs were being questioned today by police for light on the mysterious killing of iVJarlo Filippj, 28, restaurant proprietor, in the basement of his ! establishment at 18 Sacramento street.“Joe shot me. and Tony Lau-rettl were the only words spokenby I* ilippi as ho was removed to the Harbor Emergency hospitallast night, where he died.Friends of Filippf gave police thenames of many men named Joe,who are being examined.Laurettl, who was shot to-death |by his young wife, Maria, on November 30, was a friend of alikeCaldaralia, Filippi's partner.Joe Foley, waiter in the restaurant, saw from the window of trio establishment the freight elevator slowly rise from the basement to the sidewalk, and called an ambulance when he saw Filipp!on It, bleeding from gunshot wounds.The dying Filippi had apparentlyjumped on the elevator and started it toward the sidewalk after he was shot.
