MAN CONVICTED OF ASSAULT IN COURTTOTTENVILI.K, Dec. 12:—Two | assault cases from this end of the I island were up in county court at St. George yesterday before County (Judge J. Jlarry Tiernan presiding. | In one case n plea of assault in the I second degree was accepted anil in j the other the prisoner was placed on I trial before a jury.John Iannone. of the American ' Brick Works, pleaded guilty to assault in the second degree and was placed on probation by Judge Tler-nun for one year. The complainant was Peter Pallono. of the same address in Greenridge, who chargesI Iannone with having stabbed himduring an altercation on September 3 this year at the brick works.Frank Soza. thirty-live years old. a boarder at 71 Alain street, Tottenville, was convicted of assault In the third degree and was remanded to the county jail at Richmond for sentence on Friday.Soza was charged with having attacked Joseph Alvez, ol 150 Montague street, Brooklyn, at the boarding house on August 23, this year, and struck him over tho head with an iron pipe. Alvez had to have his wound sewed up by Ambulance Surgeon Clark of the Richmond Memorial Hospital, after which he was taken there for treatment. Patrolman Kay Wilbur, who arrested Soza shortly after the assault on the man, told the court how ho was forced to fire five shots from his service pistol to halt Soza as ho tried to escape when he went to the hoarding house to get him after Alvez was taken to the station house to be attended for his wounds. Patrolman Wilbur also made tho arrest in the first case where Iannone pleaded guilty to the assault charge.
