al*IN THE TERRIBLE TOILS.Frank Certer Wanted by the Au thorities on a SeriousCharge.HIS NAME NOT RENO CASINO ANY MORE, BUT DENNIS, WITH A BIG “D.”An Officer With the Necessary Papers and Party to Identify Him, on Their Way to Sturgis, Mich.CiWhore They tio Doubt Captured Him This nomine;.Nearly everybody who has lived in Li-gonicr the past ten years knows Frank Carter, sometimes known as Arthur, ilo lias recently got into a little difficulty from which he is not likely to extrio, ato himself, and it looks very much as if the doors of the Michigan penitcntinry would swing open to receive him before the roses bloom again.lie was a resident of Ligonicr for a number of years, but last spring removed to Kendnllvillo and accepted a position with A, S. Parker in the News office. During the fair therc.some of his young chums introduced him to a young lady residing near LaOtto, he passing under the name of Francis Reno Casino, and representing himself as a singlo man, though he had a wife and two children, one aged about seven years and one two, living in Kcndallville, which fact those who were acquainted with him well knew. The young lady was captivating in appearance, handsome and vivacious, richly dad. only 18 years old. well connected, a graduate of the Kcndallville schools, and Carter was “stuck on her at once, lie sought further acquaintance, visited her as often as ho could, but as secretly as possibly of course, having, however, sent his wife and children on a visit to Ltgonicr. To make the story short ho sought the girl's ruin, and, according to his own confession, accomplished it under a promise of marriage. In due time the girl was in trouble—in serious trouble, anil then Carter induced her lo go lo her home, lie sought lo relieve her, hut the remedy did not work, anil, to use a street phrase, they were both in the soup. The The young lady had been warned and advised hut she would not listen to the entreaties of friends, who informed her of the situation. Carter denied all and ingeniously invented an excuse for the I 8,1 statements of his being n married man. j01 lie went further and secured the services ( ' of his wife, who wrote to the young lady !111 and claimed to he a widow, that Frank 111 Carter was tier brother, and that his real J ^ name was Re.no Casino, and that she had i kept house for him, advising the young i 01 lady to pay no attention lo the “slander- jso oils rumors. ” She gave as a reason for his being called Frank Carter that lie had j'' a step-father try that name. Several letters passed between them, and the young lady was thus allured to her ruin, no doubt.Carter found himself in a box with hut one way out, and he concluded to leave the state. This he did something over a week ago, going to Sturgis, Michigan, where his wife expressed a valise to him.it appears that ho suddenly devised another scheme, however, and that was to 1 is have his wife get a divorco, ho would us then mavry the girl, and in due time (so m ho led his tyifc to believe, no doubt,) he would get freed from tl|c girl and remarry his lirst wife. To carry out this schcmo he would need have the willing assistance of his wife. This lie no doubt secured, as she took steps this week to secure a divorce, alleging as sufficient grounds the crime of adultery. For some reason, however, lie could not wait for the slow movements of the court, and was induced or compelled to hurry matters with the girl ho had wronged. It is stated that he married her in Michigan and they were quietly roaming in Sturgis, where the officers, no doubt, found the object of their search this morning. The oarly north bound train on tlieQ.R. I. road boro an odicor, a relative of the wronged girl and Mr. A. S. Pnrkor of the KendflllvilloNcws, as a committee on idcnliilcation, in pursuit of Carter, having him spotted, and no doubt ore this have the young man in limbo. Ho will bo tried in Michigan for his crime for the reason that the laws of that state aro moro stringent and inflict a greater penalty for the crime of bigamy titan is proscribed by the statutes of Indiana. Wo understand the penalty is from flvc to twenty years.Should Carter meet liia just dues in this matter lie will no doubt have ample time to reflect and ponder oyor his foolish andfowlUiwicked careor.la
