Cnii.ti WairiSG—On Monday week, N'athnn Uuipns, a young man (?) about 18 years of ago, and engaged in leaching oooof the common schools in Washington Township, was brought before Hs^uire Higgins on ! a chargo of assault and battery, in the flogging of a pupil, a boy 3 years of age named Hawkins. It had been a week Biaeo the flogging was done, but the weila were yet plainly to be seen on the person of the boy. The gnd with which he inducted the punishment was also exhibited in Court, a most cruel looking bceoh liiob, about tire feet io length, crooked and knotty. Much indignation was felt and expressed by tho bystanders at the barbarity of the punishment inflicted. He was fined and costed to the amount of $21,50.
