He •faces a possible death sentence.•' The trial, which began Nov. 28, featured 41 witnesses and videotapes of Dunkle leading police on a walking tour of the sites where the boys died while he described how Ihe killed them.of boys’ deathsIn the next phase of the trial, set to begin Jan. 2, the same jurors will determine whether Dunkle will be sentenced to life in prison orto death.Prosecutors said they will offer evidence on Dunkle’s criminal history from 1982 to 1985, which includes a 1983 hit-and-run accident involving another Belmont boy. In 1985, Dunkle told an undercover Belmont police officer of his involvement in that accident.The jury also will hear evidence regarding Dunkle’s confession to the July 1985 stabbing murder of Sean Dannehl, a 12-year-old boy from Sacramento.Dunkle will be tried in Sacramento for Dannehl’s death.
