Grand jury indicts Roberts on attempted murder chargeBy EDD PRITCHARDStaff WriterThe Erie County grand jury has indicted Kenneth Roberts on two counts of attempted aggravated murder in connection with a shooting Sept. 28.Roberts, 38, allegedly broke into the Perkins Township home of his ex-wife, Mary Roberts, 34, and shot her and James S. Mantel while they were sleeping. Ms. Roberts and Mantel were each shot once, but were not seriously injured in the incident.The grand jury also indicted Roberts on one count of aggravated burgalry and one count of having a weapon under disability in connection with the incident.Roberts is being held in Erie County Jail He was arrested in FortWayne, Ind., Nov. 5, on a federal fugitive warrant.Among 16 others indicted by the grand jury was Robert Yanchunis, who was indicted on a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.Yanchunis, 18, 1105 W. Monroe St., was charged in connection with a Sept. 23 accident which resulted in the death of 8-year-old Deidra Brown, 1829 Third St.Sandusky police reported a car allegedly driven by Yanchunis stuck the girl while she was walking with two friends along Wildman Street. The young girl died Sept. 30 in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, of injuries suffered in the accident.The grand jury also indicted David Spencer, 22, R.D. 2, Hahn Road, Huron, on counts of breakingand entering, vandalism and disrupting public service, in connection with the Nov. 15 breakin at the Milan Police Station.Spencer allegedly broke into the police station at about 4 a.m. and destroyed the interior of the office. Total damage to the station was estimated at more than $5,000.Two men were indicted by the grand jury on counts of aggravated arson and arson to defraud.Edmund D. Adams, 22, 1423 W. Perkins Ave., and Denver Houser, Jr.,24, 221 Starr Drive, were indicted in connection with a fire at April 27, 1978. Fire officials said the two men set fire to a mobile home at 2130 River Road, Sandusky.Also indicted was Joseph T. Mc-Cluskey, 24, 1115% Sherman St.,TnloHa An nno r»ni int nf hrpatinJed the checks.
