Youth Is Slain By Lima Police OfficersLIMA — A 19-year-old Lima youth was shot by Lima Police after being caught in the apparent burglary of a sporting goods store, officers said today.A spokesman for the Lima Police reported officers responded to a possible burglary report from Mrs. Clod Rhoades, wife of the owner of the Rhoades Sporting Goods Store on N. Officer Schneider tapped on the store window with his weapon and the man inside turned around and pointed the shotgun at the officer.Schneider fired through the window and missed, police say. The robbery suspect then smashed through the front door glass, stopped and fired one shot at Schneider and also missed, then ran south on Jackson SLArriving at the scene at this point were Lima Police Officers Jake McCord and Terry White, who were stationed nearby, and PU. Myers.The burglar was ordered to stop and drop his weapon, but Lumpkins turned around and pointed his gun at Myers. Myers shot his weapon three times and when Lumpking still refused to drop his weapon. Myers fired three more times.Lumpkins then collapsed at the rear of his automobile parked nearby. He was taken to Lima Memorial Hospital by Lima Ambulance Service where he died at 3 a, m. Allen County Coroner William Nobel reported Lumpkins was hit six times bv bullets.Due to identification carried by Lumpkins it was first believed that he was a Delphos resident and it might still be possible that he formerly resided there. Lima Police reported that his latest address was 1125 W. Robb SL in Lima.
