i “ill i y woiKing on appoint-rnent of committees.— —II ACecil Ray Rinehart 37,longtime resident of Hobbswas sentenced to spend the rest of his natural life in the state penitentiary following his plea Monday in District Court to the murder of Phil Verier, Hobbs merchant.Verier 72, was killed at his home in Hobbs on November 17, 1967.Rinehart, according toAssistant District Attorney Bill Fleming confessed to another convict m the Huntsville, Texas pen where he is serving two terms, one ten year term and another for 20 years.His life sentence will run concurrently with the Texas sentences. Under NewMexico law, a lifer can applyfor parole in ten years.A complaint charging Rinehart with murder was filed on the criminal docket at Lovington on December 5.His return to New Mexicohad been kept quiet and few people knew he was to be arraigned and sentenced until after it was over,Fleming denied tipping off the daily newspaper and saidhe wished he knewwhodid. Fleming called a news conference in Hobbs and gaveLovington publisher W H. Graham and KLEA manager Hoyt Caldwell only 20 min-utes to get there. Neither were informed of the sentencing in Lovington until they arrived in Hobbs.Rinehart was first sentenced to Springer school for boys on Dec. 11, 1945 when the late A. D.
