THE CASK OF MAJOR PHILLIPS.Major Henry Qeorge Coates Phillips, late Northumberland Fusiliers, was committed for trial atAldershot yesterday on a charge of attempted suicide. It is alleged that he brokd into the residence of Mrs. Phillips, from whom he had been divorced, at Crookham, and inhaled coal gas. He was admitted to bail, himself in £50 and his brother in £50. He had a distingui shed career in SouthAfrica, being wounded at the Tugela, and he wasfive times mentioned in despatches for service at Spion Kop, and in the relief of Ladysmith.
