Arrest made in ] shoo! mg deathSCO IT WITTEN SlaH writerRobeson County Sheriff's Department officials have charged a Lumberton man with first degree murder in the shooting death of a man whose body was found about eight mites from Lumberton on Thursday.Robeson County Sheriff Hubert Stone said Saturday that authorities arrested Michael Lynn Hunt 26. of Route \ Lumberton. late Friday and placed him in the Robeson County Jail without bond, pending a court hearing Monday.According to Stone, the murder appeared to be drug-related.The dead man has been identified as Colon Phillip Smith, 27, of Lot 13, Midway Trailer Parle in Lumberton. Smith's body1 was found at 30:25 a.m. Thursday nearthe Back Swamp Canal near Rural Pav-. ed Road 1154, south of U.S. 74 near the : Interstate 35overpass.Authorities estimate that Smith died : within a 24-hour period before his body was found, but refused to speculate as to whether Smith had been shot where he i was found or if he had been shot • elsew here an d tr an sported to the e anal.Det. Randall Patterson said Friday I that Smith apparently died from a gunshot wound from a handgun.
