Golden Meadow ManCharged With MurderOf Wife Last Sat.Charged with the murder of his wife on their Golden MeadowQ1tifarm, a few miles south of White-w re 51law, last Saturday morning, Harvey Thompson, prominent farmer of that district was arrested byMounted Police and lodged in a0TePiinmcell in the local headquarters barracks. The tragedy occurred about 3 o’clock in the morning. . 2Apparently there was a quarrel i!between Thompson and his wife Iand it is alleged that in a fit of16rbirage he got out of bed and beat his wife over the head with a chair or part of a chair. Then, it is Iar beleived, realizing what he had done he put his wife in the bed,' ^soaked everything with coaloil andgasoline and set fire to the house inan attempt to destroy evidence.Later Thompson went to a nearby shack with his axe, it is alleged, and killed three dogs and several cats which he said he did notwish to see suffer.He then walked to Whitelaw iasand told his story to W. R. Spots- j0(wood, Whitelaw merchant, stating t that he had come to town togive himself up. According to a Sj report, while talking to Mr. Spots-wood, Thompson changed hismind about giving himself up and he attempted to escape, but the merchant was able to summon the,. police before he left the store. 101 The burned body of Mrs. so Thompson and the dead animals were found at the scene of the1 Detragedy after Thompson was in |police custody.An inquest held on Saturday afternoon placed the responsibility for Mrs. Thompson’s death upon her husband, and the preliminaryhearing was set for Tuesday, Dec14th, at FairviewGiiner]atstlt;This case makes two murdertrials at least for the next sittingof the Supreme Court which will open Tuesday, January 18th the other murder case beingpoththe Gougeon case, of Girouxville.It is also expected that the present charge of attempted murder a-gainst Mrs. Roberts, of Fairview, will be changed to murder -owing to the death of her husband and if this is done the next Supreme Court docket will list threemurder cases for the Peace Riversitting.spiresHistcCOlVOduop]thlt;St(]neianlt;
