' ' '/ .Judge Green, ably assisted by District Attorney Mitchell, has been instrumental in clearing both the civil and criminal dockets of an unusually large number 01* cases (luring the brief period he has. presided over the District Court in this county, not quite a term. Five criminal cases were disposed of this week, tiiero being two convictions and three acquittals. George Gload, charged with bigamy, and ■ Pancho Hernandez,: with assault with intent to murder and robbery with fire armsj were convicted and their punishment assessed at confinement for five and six years, respectively, in the penitentiary. Jesse Johnson and“Dcputy Sheriff Henry Saer.s, each charged with murder, and j Fredericc Benavides, with assault with intent to murder and robbery, with firearms, were acquitted, the verdict iii the Sacns case being instructed by the court. Even greater progress will likely be made next week, as quite a large number of cases are set for trial then, as follows: Lizzie Campbell, alias Vic Wallace, a white woman, charged with the murder of Viola Coleman, a negress; Paula Villareal, a Mexican woman, charged with ‘ the murder of a baby of her own race; Luke Bare field, a negro boy, chargedwith the murder of his elder brother, Ernst Barefield, and Joseph and Frank Zimmer, charged with the murder of Emile Miller. The Wailace. case. is set for Monday, the Zimmer cases for Tuesday and the Barefield and Villa-real cases for Thursday.
