Daugherty Admits To Co. SlayingHOLUDAYSBURG,(UPI) — A Michigan man has admitted to the March 9 murder of Elizabeth Shank, 40, Tipton, Blair County.Jeffrey Daugherty, 21, ot Taylor, Mich., Tuesday told a Blair County jury he shot Mrs. Shank while robbing Jack’s Quikmart on Rte. 220 near Bellwood.Daugherty testified he was an expert in several martial arts. He said he had shot Mrs. Shank by instinct when she reached for what he thought was a gun.The accused murderer told the jury he kept shooting until Mrs. Shank hit the floor and his gun was empty.It was only then, Daugherty said, that he saw the woman was reaching for“a harmless purse.”*Daugherty testified he did not intend to rob Mrs. Shank when he went into the store.The Michigan man said Bonnie Heath, 41, Beaverton, Mich., who is also charged in the robbery-killing, wasn’t with him at the time of the incident and knew nothing about it until later.
