Obtaining Money Under Fai.sk Pretences.—Mns.es A. Belcher, from the country, was beforethe Mayor yesterterday, on Lhe above charge. Thethree witnesses, including Office Butts, the ladyimposed upon, and a gentleman who accompanied her, whose names we could not remember. d*1-p 'j-'ed to the amount that prisoner demanded of the Iftdv, payment for a load of wood which a negro had just discharged into her yard. She supposing him to bo the owner of the wood, gave him the amount charged. Belcher then sloped, and the negro, on asking for his money vv’s told it had been paid to his master: the negro then said that his master was not in town, and the lady seeing she had been duped, paid him, and caused Belcher to be arrested.The prisoner was sent on for further trial, to I answer to the above charge.
