Authorities charge son in brutal deathsBy MATTHEW EPSTEINTHE TRIBUNE DEMOCRATmepstein@tritxtem comWINDBER Police say two former Windber residents were shot to death in their Chattanooga, Tenn.. home by their son, who then cut them with a chain saw.Chester A. “Chet” Badowski Jr., 47, and his wife, the former Christine Berkey, 46, were found Thursday morning by Chattanooga police after they failed to show up for work. . .Police said the couple, both 1975 Windber Area High School graduates, had been shot by their son, Philip Badowski. 22.He was in the process of dismembering their bodies with a chain saw when officers arrived at the home and came upon the gory scene, authorities said.Philip Badowski has been charged with two counts each of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse.Police said he confessed to the crime.In Windber and Chattanooga, his parents were remembered as high school sweethearts and devout Catholics. They recently had returned from a mission ary trip to Haiti.Few family members in Windber could be located. Mr. Badowski's grandmother said many had traveled to Tennessee, but declined to comment further.“The family is devastated. And the family up here doesn't really know what precipitated this,” said Doris Gindlesperger of Meyersdale, an aunt of Mrs. Badowski.Sgt.
