Request Health Dept. To Handle Dog WardenCounty Hoard of Commissioner Tuesday suggested to the County Health Depart* ment that it assume jurisdiction over the dog warden. Bryce Billings, counsel for the' Health Board, said there is very little law on who supervises I he dog warden. “I suppose the counly commissioners can delegate authority lo any group of people Io supervise the dog warden,” he added.“One of the problems is with the man who you have now as warden. You can have 1C bosses and you will still have the problem, Billings said. He said be has tried lo give Remus advice, to no avail.Health Board members said they thought it was more appropriate for jurisdiction of the dog warden to be under the sheriff's department, which is open 24 hours a day to receive calls, which are relayed to Remus through a radio in his warden’s truck.In an emergency how. would you gel hold of the warden if the sheriff’s department divorces itself from it completely? the board members asked.Health Board member Vernon Engel said it would be difficult to get people to switch to calling the health department after they have been trained to call the sheriffs department for dog complaints.The commissioners said Remus has requested to bq deputized, but wasn't.Billings said the warden should be trained the same as police in search and seizure policies. He said he knew of .one instance where Remus had taken someone's dog right off their front \ porch, because it wasn't chained.
