Effenberg, 59, 1250 Colorado Avenue, Turlock, is free on 52.500 bail awaiting a preliminary hearing December 14th in Oakland on a charge of disseminating false advertising regarding an ‘'ozone’' health medicine.Arrested with him in San Francisco recently were G. W. Kelm, 59, of Lodi, Fred H. Stephens, 60, of Balboa and R. W. Garratt, 67, of Bakersfield,Milton T. Duffy, chief of the state bureau 'of food and drug inspectors, sa!d: the four sold S500,000 worth • of devices throughout California, touting them as a cure for such,diseases as eahcer, diabetes,, polio, ulcers and high.blood.pressure. . .Neon .Tubes'Duffy said the device consisted of a small box with several neon tubes and a transformer inside. When the current was turned on the tubes generated an odor of ozone, a faintly blue, gaseous form ot oxygen which is present in minute amounts in the atmosphere.Duffy said the machines, licensed to sell fcr $lo4 each, are manufactured in Newport Beach and Brea.Printed In LodiState agents said pamphlets advertising the device were printed at the Lodi Academy Shop.Stephens was .described as president of United Ozone Company, Effenberg, 'state distributor, and Garratt and Kelm, state sales representatives.Samuel A. Dye, 65, of Stockton was convicted last August In Stockton, of falsely advertis-, ing the device. He said he sold! 100 of the machines in Stock-’ ton.
