OF NEARLY S500 IN HER OWNHOMETWO MEN ARE UNDER ARRESTMrs. Jay Packer Bound and Gagged by Two Men Who Were Secreted in Her HomeSpecial to The Pkess.ASHLEY, Nov. 30.—Watson Trowbridge and Frank Hart, brotbers-in-law, are under arrest and in charge of the sheriff at Angola, charged with robbing Mrs. Jay Packer of $493.Last Saturday evening Mrs. Packer was up town during the forepart of the evening, and while she was absent from her hoiue two men gained an entrance and secreted themselves in the house awaiting her arrival home, evidently knowing that she bad some mouey in the house. When Mrs.Packer returned home, her husband being on duty at the Wabash round house, she supposed that she was alone in the house and counted out her money, which amounted to $489 and some cents. This she put away for safe keeping and took up a novel to read, when two men pounced from their hiding in an adjoining room and threw a blanket over her, bound and gagged her and then commeuced a search for the money. After ransacking the house they succeeded in finding the money, besides an additional •$5 which was on the bedroom dresserThe robbers then told Mrs. Packer that her husband would work all night at the round house and that she should rest easy, and they left her bound and gagged and very much frightened.A few minutes later Mrs. Frank Smell and Mrs. Anna Flemming were passiDg the Packer home when they heard some commotion ia the house, it being Mrs. Packer trying to get loose from her bindings and they entered and learned the story. Then they gave the alarm and the foot prints of the robbers were tracked in the snow to the Trowbridge home. The .house was guarded nearly all night and the sheriff sent for. It was suspicioned that the two men would escape town over the Wabash aod Mr. Packer and the sheriff secreted themselves at the Wabash depot to watch for them to put in an appearance. The two men appeared and the sheriff placed Trowbridge and Hart under arrest and they were taken to Angola where they were given a hearing yesterday and bound over to court. They are being tried for the robbery.
