The true cause of the shootiug of Patrick Tieruey by Haggle Dowty in giveu os follows in n dispatch from Livingston, Mrs. Dowty was dooply wronged by her victim. Before she was 15 years old, Tierney,, then 35 years of age, took her to a dnucc inLivingston, lured her into the Albo-marle hotel and accomplished her ruin. Ho threatened to kill her if she ox posed him, and the girl, terrified by bis throats, kept hor secret. Two yours later Tierney assaulted tho girl while alono at hor home. Sho fought him desperately and successfully repelled him. lu June last the woman was married, and shortly after stories reflecting upon hor good name, circulated by Tieruey, canio to her husband's ears, lie questioned her aud she told him all. She afterwards took poison, but the timely discovery of her conditiou and prompt medical aid saved her life. The woman then swore vengeance upon her traducer and sent a bullet through his heart. She now lies in jail awaiting motherhood and trial for murder.
