Arthur J. Riley that Mrs. Johnson screamed and ran across the street behind the Roemer car with a man in hot pursuitMrs. Roemer said she leaned on the horn because she could see no lights in surrounding homes anddrove hurriedly to her home toobtain her husband, Park Policeman Max Roemer.Mrs Schwanke said she looked out her second floor bedroom window when she heard Mrs Johnson’s long scream. She saw Mrs. Johnson, w*lth a man followingclosely, crossing the parkway running into the Schwanke front yard.Mrs. Schwanke said Mrs. Johnson ran up the sidewalk, mounted four steps and started to open the screen door. The man, who was Johnson, fired once from about 10 feet away, the bullet passing through the screen door, an inner door and lodging in the first step of a flight of stairs in the hallw’ay.court SeptTrailerJohnson moved from the homein Janaury to a trailer near theLamb school on south Sheridan Rd. he shared with Joseph Goff. 25, formerly of Bristol. When one of the Johnsons’ two sons, Kenneth, 22. visited the trailer about two weeks ago, Goff showed the .32 caliber pistol to him in a kitchencupboard and said the weapon had just been purchased by Johnson.Police this morning were investigating a report that Roy Johnson bought the pistol at a gun shop at 24th Ave. and 63rd Sts!UKenneth Johnson, Mrs. Roemer. her husband. Max. and others questioned by police and Coroner Glerum declared that Johnson had made!threatening statements toward his wife during and shortly after thedivorce proceedings.GoodtalkedEx-Wife Shot Twice*Mrs. Johnson opened the screen door, but the inner door w*as locked. Johnson then pumped two shots into his wife’s body as she struggled to open the door, one striking her left shoulder, emerging, hitting her neck and passing out. The other struck her left side and, authorities said, apparently coursed upward, striking vital organs and lodging in her body. One of the shells was found today in a room leading from the Schwanke front hallway, having broken a panel of glass in the door and ricocheted off a hinge in the door jamb.son at the filling station from 9:30 p.m. to approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday night, and Kenneth, who is employed there and w^ent off duty at 6:30 p.m., told police that Johnson appeared in normal good spirits. Kenneth said, “Dad appeared normal and cheerful Tuesday.” Roemer reported, “We chatted in my car at the station and Johnson appeared in fine spirits, apparently untroubled.”IPolice said that Johnson closed the station at 10:30 p.m., and, sometime before 11:30 p.m., drove his car to the bathhouse at Southport park about six blocVs from the scene of the shootings, walked to the Johnson home on 5th Ave. and secreted himself inside the north side entrance.
