Country Club Capers’ Alleged Inside Man’’ On Trial at DallasDALLAS — A burglary and theft trial is getting underway in Dallas today for the man alleged to be the inside man in the so-called Wichita Falls “Country Club Capers. The defendant is 37-year-old James Lebus, an active and popular figure in country club set and a well-known amateur golfer. A stockbroker and one of the heirs to an east Texas oil fortune, Lebus lives in Dallas. Law enforcement officials said that millions of dollars in gold and silver coins, expensive jewelry and other trappings of the wealthy were stolen over the past two years. The case was moved to Dallas on a change of venue.Prosecutors allege that Lebus pointed out the victims to a man who describes himself as a criminal mastermind. 35-year-old Clyde T. Bums has admitted more than 50 burlgaries in the Wichita Falls area alone andlooms as the state's top witness. Burns, who has agreed to testify for the prosecution, is being held in the Wichita County jail “for his own protection. He originally was charged with theft...but has not been indicted by a grand jury.Also linked to the probe are an undercover agent, plea bargaining, a specialprosecutor and an elite vigilante group called “The Victims.
