There is hot and cold water on everv floor of thejail, aod the prisoners are comjelled_totake a bath twice a week. The cells are as regularly swept and cleansed as any private house in the city. Disinfectants are constantly aod regularly used and everything is dooe that will contribute to the comfort and cleaoliness of the prisoners. Tbe fare is good, plentiful and substantial aod tbe prisoners have invariably eipressed themselves as in every way lsfied with their treatment. The jail issatisfied with their treatment. The jail is open to inspection of visitors at any time, and will be found in equally good condition on^oH day s’* as well as when the grandjury are in session This speaks well forpfc is kept reflects credit on tbe Sheriff. Some of our Sheriffs have, however, fallen far short of this. Now that the jail is in such good condition, it is to be hoped that our grand juries and commissioners will see hereafter that it is kept so. It would be no more tban proper tbat tbe commissioners shouldappoint from month to month one of tbeir number to inspect tbe jail at suchhours and days as might suit bis convcnience—other than the regular days of visitation,of which the Sheriff should not be apprised.
