acvtVaIcfV1]Regulator Days.In referring to the days of the “regulators” which culminated in the hanging of McDougal in the Diamond Lake Hills, the Warsaw Indianian says:Not long since, in recalling some early reminiscences of the days of horse thieving, and in alluding to the gang that had their headquarters in Noble county, but' also had a membership in Lagrange, and even in our own county, we stated that the vicinity of the Hawpatch was particularly productive of members of the gang. Our old friend, Mr. J. B. Swart, sends us a postal contradicting this statement. He says that the Hawpatch did not furnish a single horse-thiel, but on the contrary, the citizens of that place were and are particularly moral and the vicinity is j j also noted for the number of its fine churches, its school houses, its Sunday schools, and every thing pertaining to Christian advancement. The region known as the Hogback and Diamond lake were the home of the horse-thiefia early days, and when the country was new. The hanging of McDougal by the citizens of all the region round about, and which had the effect to break up the gang, took place on the shores of the lake referred to, at a point about seven miles from the Hawpatch. Wm. Kirtley, of the American House, in this place, was a spectator, along with about fifteen hundred others of the hanging of McDougal.fct\I
