TWo nurses charged with neglect in death of patientEVANSVILLE (AP) — Two Westpark Rehabilitation Center nurses were charged with felony neglect in the death of an 80 year old patient Sue E. Russell, 52. of Evansville, and Nikki Lynn Wagoner. 30. of Galatia. Ill, surrendered to police Monday to face the charges.Their attorney. Glenn Grampp, denied his clients did anything wrong in connection with the Jan. 7 death of Mary Mynatt.“I'm familiar enough with what 1 believe the facts of this case to be to i say that (they) will be acquitted. Grampp said. “We look forward to the opportunity to try the case.An autopsy concluded Mynatt had received no fluids for at least two days before her death. Her death was ruled a homicide by the Vander- j burgh County coroner.An indictment handed down Friday accused the women of know ingly placing Mynatt in a “situation that endangered her life or health or deprived her of necessary supportWagoner first appeared Monday before Superior Court Judge |. Dou j glas Knight, but her case was transferred to Circuit Court. Wagoner j waived extradition from Illinois.Circuit Court Magistrate David Kiely ordered the women released on their own recognizance. A hearing is scheduled Oct. 28.The Indiana Department of Health fined Westpark $2,500 for defi ciencies found after Mynatt's death.
