rTwo Fugitives From Training School Held With N. D. CompanionCHICAGO, Aug. 28 — MP) —Twomen fugitive*, from the Washington state training school, Monroe, Wash., and a girl companion were arrested today by detectives answering a report about a “suspicious man.”The detectives, James Traut, Eugene Steinway and William Sullivan, identified the trio as JohnPape, 23, and George Heck, 23, and Gladys K^vser, 19, of Hatton, N. D.The detectives said Pape was j carrying two pistols and a blackjack. that Heck had a pistol and that in Miss Kayser’s handbag was a clipping of a newspaper story of Aug 25 from Fargo, N. D., telling of the trio s escapades in North Dakota and Minnesota.The prisoners, said the detectives, confirmed the story which said:They were arrested Tuesday morning m Twin Valley, Minn., by Sheriff Oscar Bang of Norman County who ■with a deputy, Marvin Erickson, started with them for Fargo but near Fargo the men produced pistols, disarmed the law' officers,forced them out of the car and handr cuffed them to the fork of a tree.The trio escaped in the sheriffs car which was found later near Dil-worth, Minn., and subsequently robbed a Glyndon, Minn., farmer, tied him to a tree and took his car.The Chicago detectives said Miss Kayser told them she met Pape and Heck at a dance in Hatton and traveled with them for a week.While the trio was held for ques-the police telegraphed Washington state authorities.The newspaper story said that after the trio was nabbed in Minnesota the men were handcuffed but that apparently the arresting officers overlooked two pistols in the girl's handbag with which the trio later effected their escape.
