Cyclone Girl Dies Instantly After Be-i ing Shot at Homei Margaret Maynard Victim of Tragedy; Death AccidentalMargaret Augusta Maynard, aged 19, of Cyclone, well known member of lost year’s graduating dass of Smethport High School, was instantly killed at her home yesterday afternoon at 1:55 o’ctock, when a bullet fired accidentally from a .22 rifle entered her head just above the left eye, lodging in the back of the head.Her brother, Roger Paul, aged 13, ; had been inspecting the rifle in the dining room of the Maynard home along with a friend, Lennle Cornelius, 15, preparatory to going wood-J chuck hunting, according to Cora-' nccl Thomas R. Clark. The boys J passed the weapon back and forth, and a cartridge slipped accidentally into the chamber, Mr. Clark said.• Margaret was sitting in a chair in the adjoining living room when her ' brother picked up the gun, raised it,1 and touched the trigger with his ’ Tiuger. The bullet struck the girl as ’ she sat in the next room. Coroner Clark said that Cornelius had joined Margaret fn the living room shortly before the gun ‘was fired.The Cornelius boy had gone to the Maynard home some time before the accident to ask If young Maynard would go td the Smethport Country Club. Not finding the young man at home he visited with Miss Maynard until his return. It was decided to go woodchuck hunting instead of going to the country club.The three young people w£re alone in tJiu Muynard home at the time of the tragic accident. Mr. Maynard was at his work and Mrs. Maynard was at a neighbor's home.Dr. wm. Murray of Smethport was summoned but the young lady had succumbed before his arrival.No Inquest, was likely, according to Mr. Clark, as the shooting appeared to be accidental. County Detective Merle Dickinson was notified, and is investigating the case with Pvt. John Sarko and Corp. R. E. Pflugfelder, of the Pennsylvania mo-to police, who was summoned to the Maynard home by neighbors a few minutes after th$ shooting.The victim was bom August 6, 1922, in Centerville, Pa„ the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald A, Maynard. The family moved to Cyclone about two years ago. She was graduated from the Smethport High school with the class of 1941. She had many friends here.Survivors include, beside her parents, four brothers, John, Willis, Francis and Roger; two sisters, Virginia and Donna, all at home; and her grandmothers, Mrs. Robert He-fright and Mrs. Arthur Maynard of Centerville.
