Raid In ElliottA£ent W. C. Maning, accompanied by local officials, Ben Burton, William Caldwell, A. J. Rice and Ernest Bierley, made a raid in Elliott county near Gimlet last Thursday and captured a 100 gallon copper still and arrested Nelse Binion chai’gedCerSlt;awthtliVItloiwith operating it. It was on the farm of Binion. They captured 600 ! la gallons of stilled beer, 12 sixty gal- \ w Ion fermenters and a quantity of jai whisky was also destroyed. j tlThe same officers also capturedniflt;near *|his same spot on the farm of Jamel Nichols a metal still with two 1 lt;1-sixty gallon fermenters and some ja‘ whiskv. James Nichols was arrested i aicharged with operating a still. A j n‘few vards from this still Ed Nichols ti*was arrested with a pint of whisky •on him for transporting. Near jMorehead in Rowan county, the same j officers arrested Arvel Williams and jFrank Eden with eight gallons of whisky and charged them with trans- □portihg. I ^The defendants were all brought before United States Commissioner A. J. Counts, of this city, and all gave bond except James and Ed Nichols, who were sent to jail at Morehead to await their examining trial.
