BEFORE THE DISTRICT COURT.On* Mm Pltads Guilty t* Forgery and I* HeldFar the Grand Jury.The principal case of interest in the District court this morning was that of John Van Bramer, who pleaded guiltyto the charge of forgery and was heia for the grand jury under bonds of $100.The defendant pleaded guilty to forgingthe name of David Minsky on two check6 of $10 each and he was placed under arrest this morning. A week ago today Van Bramer entered the shoe store of Morris Meirowitz on West street and bought a pair of shoes for $1.50. In payment therefor he gave a $10 check and received in change $8.50. The check was drawn on the Third Na-tional bank, payable to Van Bramer and was alleged to have been signed by Minsky. It bore Van Bramer’s and Meirowitz’s endorsements when presented at the bank to be cashed last Tuesday. Although Minsky has an account at the Third National bank the officials regarded the check with some suspicion, but when Meirowitz assured i them it was all right they paid over the $10. I^ast week Thursday Van Bramer entered the saloon of Hayn Gru-now^ and purchased a pint of whiskey costing $1. In payment for the liquor he handed out a $10 check, alleged to have been made out by Minsky and payable to one John H. Bramer. The firm accepted the check, but as soon as it was presented at the Third .National bank the officials suspected that something was wrong and they immediately sent for Minsky, who said that they were fraudulent. The matter was placed in the hands of the police Saturday morning. In court this morning M. Meirowitz and Frank Grunow appeared for the commonwealth and theirtestimony was taken, although VanBramer pleaded guilty. He went onto the stand and said that he was 31 years old and had lived in Pittsfield 11 years. He used to work for Henry Blain and of late had been in tne employ of David Minsky, but he got through there a week ago last Saturday. “I did it.” he said ‘ and I was going down last week to make It right with Mr. Minsky, but I was suddenly taken ill. I now want to pay back the money.” As before statea,he was held for the arand iurr.
