A fterioa* StilMif Affrtr Wear St.Joseph’! Church, Clark Coaniy.Yesterday afternoon, about 4 o’clock, aserious stabbing affray occurred at a picnici given by St. Joseph’s churcb, about eightmiles from the city, in Clark county, inwhich a German named John Helbig wasdangerously cut. It seems that a youngerbrother of Helbig and a boy named PeterMartin had engaged in a fight about sometrifling matter, and {Helbig (went Up to partthem. While thus engaged an Irishmennamea Michael Cuddy stepped up toHelbig and stabbed him In the rightside, below the ribs, with a knife. Cuddy then flourished the knife about hishead and swore he would kill any man that attempted bis arrest. No one seemed disposed to make the arrest, and he walked away. Up to last accounts he had not been captured. He lives two miles beyond Ham*burg.Helbig is very badly cut, the blade of the knife penetrating the cavity. He was removed to his home, this side of Bennetts* ville, and at ten o'clock this morning was reported in a very critical condition.A gentleman who wttnessad the affair informs us that there was no provcation on the part of Helbig to cause Cuddy to make the attack. It is said, however, that an old grudge has existed between the perties for several vears.
