Standard Service, 305 West Vandalia street; and George Cassens Sons garage, at Hamel.Edwardsville police said a cigarette vending machine at the West End station was removed from its base and carried off. Later in the morning the machine—stripped of its coins and all but one brand of cigarettes—-was found in Valley View cemetery by the sexton, Edward Schaefer.Also taken from this station, operated by Robert S. Heidinger and Henry Dohte, Jr., were two sets of socket wrenches which Heidinger told The Intelligencer were valued at $30 to $90. The thieves gained entry by breaking a glass in the front door In order to operate the lock.The same method of entrance was used at Fruit's station, operated by Maurice E. Fruit. He told police that some change was takers i from the cash register, but said I nothing else appeared to be missing.Two cash registers, one containing a small amount of money—plus several toncoals and a woman's jacket, were removed from the Cassens garage in Hamel.Arnold Cassens told The Intelligencer that the wearing apparel belonged to employes of the establishment and had ben left in lockers near the showroom office.
