LAUKENfcLYNCHING AT LEON.James Reynolds Taken From Jail and Hanged by an Angry Mob.Particular* of One Crime Which ]Led to Anotlicr—Tlio Victim lle»*WUIi-out Mulling a Statement.^ Leon, Aug. 15.—Special to the State Register.—Early Sunday morning a second and successful attempt was made to lynch James Reynolds, the liendwlio criminally assaulted Mrs, J. A. Noble. About one o’clock in the morning fifty masked men armed with G A. R. muskets and bayonets, marched into town from a westerlydirection and halted in front of the jail. Pickets were stationed on every street in town and the few pedestrians astir were arrested and detained till the hanging was' over. The mob was evidently led by . some persons who had seen service in the ! army, as they obeyed orders prompt lv and moved witli military precision. The iront part of the jail is occupied by SJievifI J. W. Ilanold and his family as a ( residence. The captain of the mob led , his men into the jail enclosing, and. hearing the noise, the sheriff who was ^ sleeping upstairs, cnme to the window ( and demanded what was wanted.
