ABBOTT SENTENCEDWealthy Fayette Man Convicted ofViolating Liquor LawsSentence of 4 years in the penitentiary and a fine of $300 was given Lafe Abbott, of Kanawha Falls,convicted of a violation of the prohibition law. A motion for a newtrial was overruled by Judge EarySaturday. A stay of execution for45 days was granted in order thatthe case may be presented to thesupreme court of appeals. Abbott’sson, John, is also under sentenceof 4 years for a similar offense andp second son, Vernon, is serving afederal jail sentence.The Abbotts’ reside on FallsBranch where Mr. Abbott has beenengaged in the lumber business forseveral vears. He is one of the oldest and best known residents inNthat section, says the Fayette Tribune. The constant supply of moonshine coming from his neighbor- ‘hood has caused suspicion to restupon the family for a long time andfrequent raids have been made iniwhich mash and liquor were found.1In the last raid a still was foundin an old abandoned house. A youngi(man named Smith w?as fatally]wounded when the sheriff’s partymade the raid.Abbott was released on $5000 Jbond pending his appeal to the high- *er court.
