It is _the opinion of the doctors and others that the wound In the neck could have been made by the fall upon the broken glass and at least it seems certain that it must have been produced by some instrument not so sharp as aknife balde.John Edwin Abbott was born near Mt. Etna, April 21, 1870, and then came with his mother a few years later to Mahon where she moved after her second marriage, this time to Abner Allred. Here they lived until about four years ago when they moved to Roanoke and since that time he has been employed much of the time as a well driller. He was working for Esta Osborn Monday and went home in the evening. Wh6n he went away he was cautioned by his mother to return early as be would want to get out early to work. He stated that he would go back to his work during the night ss he would have an there.and went away. Later he returned and left his clothes saying that he did not intend to go to the country until morning. About seven years ago he married a woman near Roanoke. He was a hard working man when he worked but spent a great deal of his time in having a carousal. Both his mother and stepfather are among the best people in Roanoke and are broken down over the circumstances. They feel that it could not have been other than an accident and do not care to mention the matter.About two years ago young Abbott came from the door of one of the business houses in the town and held a revolver up to his temple and shot directly into the air. Reports were circulated immediately that he had taken his life but he had not touched the skin.M. B. Stults, the undertaker who was called there this morning states that he does not think the wound in the man’s neck could have been made with any sharp instrument. It may have been made, he says, by contact with a dull instrument or the glass. When asked this afternoon if he intended to make an investigation, Prosecutor Jackman stated that- hehad not been asked to look after the matter and thought he would not do so until he knew that the man was dead. He stated that he was waiting for the coroner to return. If the coroner found evidence to warrant an investigation he would ttiBb go.Coroner F. B. Morgan did not get there until about 10 today on account of other calls that required his attention.Funeral services for Abbott will be held at the Methodist church Thursday morning at 8. Rev. C. M.
