At;the tiihe th'e Strike was settled the papers carried the terms of the settlement and atdt.bd- that the county recefitried no revenue except the Costs of Certain criminal and tlvii cases that wetoV dismissed. lt;.'• ! kFor information of the citizens pf Boone County we desire to specifically and emphatically say that not one cent was received in this settlement except the costs of the cases pending., in the Boone County Circuit Court. ftfj\ Frank L. Mulholland the chief counsel for the unions in the strike settlement, gave Iris personal check for the sum of five hundred dollars to the Circuit Clerk of Boone County in payment of court costs and the Clerk in turn paid this money to the parties entitled to receive it., namely the county, the court reporter, the sheriff, the Prosecuting Attorney and the witnesses.Neither the unions nor their representatives at. any time offered anything in settlement of the Stephens bond case alone. They made various propositions in their efforts to get Orr and Wise released from the penitentiary and no doubt would hav0 been willing to make a substantial payment upon the Stephens bond had we been willing to sell out and have these men released from -the penitentiary.
