Fairfield County NewsDamages By LightningThe lightning did considerable damage Sunday in Norwalk.Roton Point hotel was struck a glancing blow on the roof, but little damage was done except for the hole through which the bolt went.The electricity also played tricks at Samuel Roodner’s home in Norwalk. The bolt followed wires into the house. Here the mistake was made in mixing the wires and gas pipes and one of the pipes was punctured by the lightning. The flames of the bolt set the gas afire and that communicated with the woodwork. By the time the fire department reached the scene the blaze had been extinguished.John Darrow’s residence, in Norwalk, was struck, the bolt entering in through the roof into one of the rooms on the second floor. The plaster was ripped off but no other damage was done.The lightning struck in numerous places about Stamford, but failed to do any amount of real damage. No buildings have been reported struck, but in several sections trees were splintered. A telephone pole was shivered into splinters.
