of times. There were four men in the fight, but Patterson and Davis were not arrested. Last night Patterson and Davis met in Mike Smith's saloon and they engaged in a game of cards with several others. Davis made some remark to Patterson about the latter’s desire to “butt in” where he was not wanted. Hot words were exchanged; and Davis arose and stepped around the i table toward Patterson. The latter i seized a chair and knocked Davis down. I Davis drew his revolver and Patterson started to run out of the doorway. Just then John Dennigan, a young man of twenty-eight years, started to enter Smith’s saloon. Patterson dodged around him and as he did so Thomas Davis pulled the trigger of his revolver. The bullet struck Dennigan in the center of the breast. He ran forward, clutched at the counter and then sank to the floor dead.Davis apparently did not know that he had shot Dennigan. He pursued Patterson for a short distance but was called back to the saloon by Mike Smith who told him he had shot John Dennigan. Davis ran to Dannigan’sside, lifted up his head and saw thathe was dead.
