Jordan, 19, formerly of Pope County, was able to elude the police after he was first sighted on Route 45 near Bonanza in Harrisburg at 1 p.m. in the murder victim’s 1989 Ford Mustang. He is wanted for auto theft and for questioning concerning the murder of 54-year-old Ralph Thompson.Harrisburg police officer Dec Pel hank saw Jordan as he headed south on the business strip in Harrisburg. Following that sighting, police swarmed the area with patrol cars by criss-crossing the area extensively and using aerial assistance. Despite the effort, JordanJoe W. Jordan“He’s from the area, he knows the area, obviously he has friends from the area. We’re kind of at a loss why he’s back here knowing we have a description of him and the car.”Jordan, considered armed and dangerous, Ls five feet, five inches tall, weighing 135 pdtlnds with blue eyes and brown hair. He has a thin mustache. The Mustang is a black and gray two-tone color. Police believe the car still bears Illinois plates AL 6035.Police are asking that anyone who might sec the fugitive contact the sheriffs departmentOn Monday, the sheriff’s department and the DCI escorted another suspect wanted for auto theft, 19-year-old Gary Gene Reed, of Bald Knob, Ark., back to Saline County after he turned himself in to authorities in Missouri.It is believed Reed was with Jordan for some time after the shooting last week, when the cartoo was reported missing. Police say Reed and Jordan were staying at Reed’s grandmother’s address in East Prairie, Mo.Jordan, however, left the address about an hour before the police arrived there on Monday at 8 a.m.Reed is confined at the White County jail pending $2,500 bond.Thompson was shot three times last Tuesday and killed. The fatal shot was in the back with a .30-30 rifle. He was shot twice in the left, shoulder area, once with a shotgun.Both guns, reported missing from Thompson’s home, were recovered from a pawnshop in Sikc-ston, Mo. yesterday.Following the execution of a search warrant of Thompson’s residence last week, police found noapparent signs of a struggle.Thompson, covered with a quilt, was found by a neighbor passing his Carrier Mills residenceIllinois’ Division of CriminalInvestigation and the Saline County Sheriff’s Department believe Jordan has information concerning the slaying.Jordan was seen later Tuesday in Glendale in Pope County at 7 p.m., when police again went into pursuit but failed to make an arrest.Chief Deputy Sheriff Ed Miller of the sheriff’s department said:.
