A suspected case of arson and burglary which occurred at the Port Isabel South Padre Pt f Friday, \ugust 13 is still under investigation, ac cording to Port Isabel Police (’hiel Lauro OchoaThe fire resulted in some damage to the walls and ceiling of the building in one comer of the back office, as well as a large desk, small table, chair, typewriter telephone and books Additionally a cassetteta|*‘ recorder. AM FM, AC-DCradio valued at $30 each, cash ar^l receipt books, were stolenWater damage was kept to aOchoa, who suspects that the work was done by juveniles, said that the finger prints found on a money jar previously containing about $2 worth of coins indicated that the person who took the jar was probably a childminimum by the member ofthe Port Isabel Volunteer Fire Department who responded quicklv to the call at approximately 11 15 Friday nightAn estimate for the damage was set at approximately $1,000 by Dennis Franke, of Bud Franke and Sons Realtors owner of the buildingThe fire was possibly started after someone apparently broke a window in the back office It is suspected that the window was then slid open, allowing enough room for a person or persons to enter the building The fire appeared to have been started in a stack of old newspapers and kindled by other papers and books, ac cording to Fire Marshall Larry Joe Keller, who noted that no electrical wiring or outlets were in the vicinity where the fire did the most damage
