7 Plead Guilty In Jail AssaultBy PAT QUIN A News Tribune Staff Writer A white youth confined in the St. Lucie County Jail had to make two tearful pleas for medical help before he was taken to Fort Pierce Memorial Hospital where it was determined he had been sexually assaulted.That was revealed this morning in juvenile court when seven black youths pleaded guilty lo assault and battery of the two whites boys. All were inmates of the county jail WHEN ASKED if he would recommend that juveniles detained in the jail be checked more frequently and watched closer. Juvenile Court Judge Janies Alderman declined lo comment, noting “off the record” that elections are not too far in the offing.Alderman said, later, however, that he planned to discuss the case with Sheriff J. R. Norvell. hut 1 don't think it would he proper For me to discuss it at this time. 1 think it would he improper if I were to discuss any particularities or make anyrecommendations”Jailer Don Thompson told Judge AJderrnan that on Aug. 6 he went lo check the juvenile cellblock about 7:30 p.m. when he heard someone “rattling” the bars.At 7:3lt;l p.m. 1 heard the bars rattling and went up to the third floor. The boy was crying and said his kidneys were hurting, but he was holding lus right side.I said his kidney's were not in his stomach and I told him t would bring him something for the pain when 1 had time.'* Thompson testified.Thompson said he went back downstairs but ‘ about an hour later. 1 heard the bars railing again. I went back up there arid he Was slill crying and complaining of pain, so I sent him to jthe emergency room.”AT THE TIME the youth was pleading for medical help, he was ,looked in a cell with iliree black Jyouths, [n the cell next lo him ,was another while boy and Four black youths.C.
