J. Gamble at Cumberland Gap, held the town at bay and then made his escape. The fight was the result of a dispute. Gamble was shot near the heart with a pistol.Marcum later secured a shotgun and cleared the street of people. Thereupon a negro attempted to shoot Marcum, when the latter'a wife disarmed the negro. and Marcum fled to the mountains.
