Nathan Hoshaw, who lives on Dr. Smith’B farm, north of the city, knows what it is to fall among thieves.Monday evening Nathan came to town with a load of wheat, which 1 e sold for cash. By the time he hi d put the money in his vest pocket 10 return home it was dark. Between here and Pittsburg Nathan overtook two pedestrians and cleverly asked them to get in the wagon and ride. They did so, and as the ascent of the Pittsbarg hill was being made tiny fell npon Nathan and in the beating they gave him knocked him out of the wagon, he falling on the doubl -trees. Abont this time the team stopped and the bandits informed Hoshaw that it was his money they wanted. He parleyed with them, and while the “chinning” progressed he deftly transferred his “wad” of currency from his vest pocket to the yarn “sock” of his right foot. Then he got up in the wagon and submitted to a search. The brigands got no boodle.Hoshaw is badly braised and cut about the head and face, but considers himself fortnnate nevertheless.
