Convicted killer’s mom pleads guilty to chargesBy Sheila Stogsdillnews@joplinglobe.com_MIAMI, Okla. — The mother of suspected serial killer Jeremy Jones pleaded guilty Wednesday to drug and weapon charges, District Attorney Eddie Wyant said.Jeanne Beard, 50, of Miami, was charged in October in Ottawa County District Court with possession of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school or park, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, and possession of paraphernalia.Beard entered what is called a blind plea, which is made without any previous agreement with the district attorney’s office regarding sentencing or punishment. A sentencing date will be set Beard is free on bond.Miami police said they found methamphetamine residue and the top of a scale in Beard's purse when they raided her home in October. In the home, officers reportedly found plastic bags, the bottom of the scale and 23 weapons, including a loaded, .25-caliber derringer that was foimd between the mattresses of her bed.Police said they also seized surveillance equipment that was hooked up outside Beard's home.Wyant said no agreement was made between his office and Jones to drop the charges against Beard in exchange for more information from Jones on the remains of two missing Craig County teenagers.Jones has been identified as a suspect in 10 unsolved killings in Northeast Oklahoma, including the slayings of Danny and Kathy Freeman, of rural Welch, Okla., and the disappearance of their daughter, Ashley, and her friend Lauria Bible, both 16, on Dec. 30, 1999.Authorities searched an area near Galena, Kan., in June 2005 for the girls’ remains without success. The search was based on information provided by Jones.On death rowJeremy Jones, 32. formerly of Miami, Okla., was convicted last year of murder and is on death row in Alabama for the rape and slaying of Lisa Nichols, 45, of Turnerville, Ala.
